2013 Tour de France Stage 21 Results & Recap
Stage 21 of the 2013 Tour de France is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.
Race Recap
The final stage of the 2013 Tour de France has come to a close on the Champs-Élysées, and with it, Chris Froome has secured his first Tour de France title in convincing fashion. The British Sky rider crossed the line in Paris wearing the yellow jersey he has held for the vast majority of this race, cementing what has been a dominant three-week performance.
As is tradition, the final stage into Paris was largely processional for the general classification contenders. The peloton rolled through the French countryside in a celebratory mood before hitting the famous cobblestones of the Champs-Élysées for the traditional criterium-style finish in the French capital. Froome was seen smiling and relaxed throughout much of the day's riding, sharing a toast with his Sky teammates as they escorted him toward the finish line.
When the racing did get serious on the finishing circuits, the sprinters took center stage. Marcel Kittel proved once again why he has been the dominant sprinter of this Tour, powering to victory on the Champs-Élysées with a commanding effort that left his rivals with no answer. The German fastman has been exceptional all race long, and he closed out his Tour campaign with another impressive stage win.
Nairo Quintana finished second overall behind Froome, with Alejandro Valverde rounding out the podium in third. It has been a remarkable Tour, and Froome departs Paris as a worthy and convincing champion.
