About Tour Tracker
Tour Tracker - launched in 2006 - was the world's first platform for live online & mobile coverage of professional cycling. Our marquee mobile app - Tour Tracker Pro Cycling - has been the highest-rated mobile app covering professional cycling since its release 2013. If you don't have our app yet, click below to install it on your phone or tablet.
Tour Tracker - Beginnings
Tour Tracker was born in 2006 when founder Allan Padgett volunteered to write a web app for the Amgen Tour of California, which was the first online coverage of professional cycling featuring live race video, GPS tracking of individual riders and text commentary. The next year Apple released the iPhone, and the world's first pro cycling mobile app was born. And then things got really interesting...
Tour Tracker - Meet le Tour
The owners of the Tour de France asked Tour Tracker to work with their broadcasters, resulting in award-winning apps including the SBS Tour Tracker and NBC Tour Tracker. The response from users and the press were amazing, including this one from Mobile Sports Report. Between 2006 and 2025 over 5 million cycling fans used Tour Tracker apps to follow the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, Vuelta a España and other professional races. It has been quite a journey!
Tour Tracker - For The Fans
Starting in 2015, however, the focus started moving from working with race owners to building the world's best app for cycling fans around the world. To do this I brought in two of the industry's best reporters - Clara Beard & Peter Cossins - to provide race previews, commentary and race recaps. The transition from technology provider to cycling media has been challenging but incredibly rewarding. Tour Tracker users are encouraged to provide feedback, and boy do they. We appreciate the kudos and the critiques equally, and it the interaction with fans that keeps me engaged every day.
Tour Tracker - The Website
Our focus will continue to be the Tour Tracker Pro Cycling mobile app. But there are simply times when using a laptop is more convenient, specifically for long-form journalism. So when Clara and Peter expressed interest in writing longer opinion pieces and more detailed race previews & recaps, I felt that it was time to expand. As with the app, I expect and encourage feedback - support@thetourtracker.com - about what we are posting here. Andiamo!
