Vingegaard wins stage 11

Jonas Vingegaard (TJV) stormed into yellow today on stage 11 of the Tour de France after his Jumbo Visma team laid down multiple assaults on Tadej Pogačar's lead and eventually wore down the race leader on the final HC climb to the finish. Jonas Vingegaard (TJV) put the nail in the coffin in the final 5km, and rode to victory ahead of Nairo Quintana (ARK) and Romain Bardet (DSM).

"I think it’s really incredible. It’s hard for me to put words on what happened. This is what I dreamt of. A stage in the Tour de France, and now the yellow jersey, it is incredible. We made a plan from the start of the day, you can see that quite clearly now. We wanted to make the race super hard, we thought it would go in my favour and in the favour of Primoz. I took a lot of time today, and I would have never done it without my teammates. They have been incredible.

When I attacked I felt he was gonna crack. On the Galibier, over the top, he was very strong. I was insecure about whether he was going full gas or not. Then I thought that, if I didn’t try all out, I was never gonna win. And of course, a second place is nice, but I did it last year already… This time I wanted victory. And I succeeded, and now I have the yellow jersey to keep on fighting all the way to Paris."

Jonas Vingegaard (TJV) now leads the race 2'16 ahead of Romain Bardet (DSM) and Tadej Pogačar (UAD) moves down to third overall at 2'22.

"I don’t know what happened. At the Galibier, I was still so good. I got a lot of attacking from Jumbo-Visma. Then, in the last climb, I just didn’t have good legs. I suffered all the way to the end. It was not my best day. We will see tomorrow if I can do better. I want to race and give everything from here to Paris. I want to end the Tour with no regrets. Jumbo-Visma played it hard. For us, it was hard to control who went on the break. We were not many guys anymore. In the end, Van Aert and Laporte went up front. They played it great tactically today. It is not over yet. He got three minutes today; maybe tomorrow it’s me who gets three minutes. We will fight until the end."
