Wiebes doubles in Geneva
Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime) continued her perfect start to the 2026 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, sprinting to victory in Geneva to claim her second consecutive stage win and strengthen her grip on the yellow jersey. Elisa Balsamo (Lidl-Trek), was second, while Marianne Vos (Visma | Lease a Bike) rounded out the podium in third.
While the stage was expected to favor the sprinters, it unfolded as one of constant aggression, with attacks flying from the opening kilometers before a breakaway finally established itself after nearly an hour of racing. The hilly middle section, featuring five categorized climbs, repeatedly split the peloton and briefly distanced several of the race's top sprinters, while Queen of the Mountains leader Océane Mahé (Ma Petite Entreprise) was dropped but managed to retain the polka dot jersey.
As the race entered its final 50 kilometers, the selection heightened before Riejanne Markus (Lidl-Trek) launched a bold solo attack that quickly became the defining move of the day. Markus built an advantage of more than a minute and held off the peloton for nearly 30 kilometers, forcing SD Worx-Protime to organize a full-scale chase as the race stormed toward Geneva. Despite the relentless pursuit, Markus remained out front until inside the final kilometer, where the defending sprint teams finally brought her back on the fast run to the finish.
With the catch made just before the flamme rouge, the stage came down to the expected bunch sprint. Wiebes once again proved untouchable, producing a perfectly timed acceleration to defeat Elisa Balsamo (Lidl-Trek), while Marianne Vos (Visma | Lease a Bike) rounded out the podium in third. The victory gives Wiebes a 14-second advantage over Kim Le Court (AG Insurance-Soudal) in the overall standings, with Demi Vollering (FDJ-SUEZ) sitting third at 16 seconds as the race heads into Stage 3.
