Richie Porte (BMC Racing Team) crowned king of Tour de Suisse

Stefan Küng (BMC Racing Team) wins final day at Bellinzona individual time trial

Stefan Küng (BMC Racing Team) won his second stage in the final stage of the Tour de Suisse with a time of 39:45 19 seconds ahead of Søren Kragh Andersen (Sunweb), who spent the early part of the day in the hot seat until the Swiss national champion took over.

“It wasn’t an easy course. It had some quite technical bits and a bit of up and down so, you had to pace it really well," Kung said. "I was saving a little bit for the end because I knew that you could make up or lose a lot of time there. I’m pretty happy with how I paced it. Obviously, it was a hard one for everyone after a hard Tour de Suisse in hot conditions but I am happy with my ride and it’s nice to take the win at home.”

Richie Porte (BMC Racing Team) took perhaps the biggest win of his career at the Tour de Suisse after finishing his time trial effort in 14th place, a minute and four seconds back on his teammate, Kung.

“It hasn’t been an easy week but the guys did a fantastic job,” Porte said. “We really had our work cut out for us and we didn’t get a lot of help from the other teams. I was a little bit worried coming into today about guys like Kelderman but I’m happy with the time we put into them at the start of the race. I think it was a fantastic week.”

Nairo Quintana (Movistar Team) didn’t have the legs to contend with the time trial specialists on a course designed for power riders, and dropped down to third place overall after clocking a time that would place him in 38th place, 1:59 seconds apart from the winner. Jakob Fuglsang (Astana Pro Team) meanwhile, rocketed up the GC standings and slotted into second after a superb performance.
