Christopher Juul-jensen (Michelton-SCOTT) solos to stage 4 victory

Stefan Küng (BMC Racing Team) remains in yellow jersey

Christopher Juul-jensen (Michelton-SCOTT) upset the sprinters’ chance for victory today at the Tour de Suisse by soloing to his first victory since the Tour of Denmark, three years ago. The Danish rider finished eight seconds ahead of the charging peloton that saw Michael Matthews finish second ahead of Yves Lampaert (Quick-Step Floors) and Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe).

"I'm super happy, we didn't expect to stay away on a day like today but when we had two minutes at the bottom of the climb, then suddenly the break started to believe it was actually possible. I am over the moon, Juuls-Jensen said on the Michelton-Scott website. “Coming out of a great Giro with Mitchelton-SCOTT, I felt I had good form and when he (Peters) attacked I kept him at a relatively close distance and I could see that he was maybe taking the corners slightly slower then I was. I was closing the gap and decided to make the most of it before it was too late.”

Juul-Jensen attacked with four kilometres to go after Nans Peters (AG2R La Mondiale) fell back from his own solo move.

"It was a long three kilometres on the airfield here but it is a fantastic feeling. Especially here, being in Switzerland with the king of Switzerland on the team, I am happy to pull out a good result."

About five kilometres into the stage, the peloton quickly released Juul-Jensen, Nans Peters, Silvan Dillier, Nathan Brown (EF Education First-Drapac), Mark Christian (Aqua Blue Sport) and Paul Ourselin (Direct Energie) up the road.

The group of six built up a lead of about six and a half minutes that remained steady for the majority of the race, right up until 50 kilometres to go when the gap started to disintegrate. On second category Saanenmöser climb the break started their last resort attacks, starting with Nathan Brown (EF Education First). Peters was the one to splinter the breakaway on the final climb, but lost his momentum giving Juul-Jensen his chance for victory.

Behind the duo, the peloton never managed to the organization they needed to catch Juul-Jensen, however Peters fell victim to the main bunch just 150 metres from the line.
