Race Recap

Magnus Cort (UXM) took his first victory for more than a year when he judged his sprint up the final straight in Banyoles to perfection, first jumping out of the slipstream of Ivo Oliveira (UAD) and then resisting the rush that came from behind him, led by Noa Isidore (DCT), who was a close second, while Francesco Busatto (APT) was third.

Race leader Dorian Godon (IGD) was out of position when the sprint began and came from a long way back to take fourth place, which was enough for him to retain the leader's jersey, although he is now level on time with Cort. The Frenchmen's lower cumulative placings over the opening two stages kept him top of the leaderboard.

For the second day in a row, Baptiste Veistroffer (LOI) was in the break that went clear soon after the start. The Frenchman had four riders for company – his teammate Liam Slock, Julen Arriola-Bengoa (CRS), Diego Uriarte (EKP) and Samuel Fernández (EUS). The quintet were kept on a tight leash by the peloton, their maximum gap around 3 minutes, although Veistroffer added to his lead in the mountains competition by taking first place on the day's only categorized climb, a cat 3 test.

The break split on the run-in, the two Lotto riders going clear with Uriarte, before dropping the Spaniard as the peloton closed in. Racing through the beautiful Alta Garrotxa Volcanic Park, the Lotto duo gave their all to stay clear. Veistroffer yielded 5km from home, while Slock pressed on until being caught at the kilometer-to-go mark. The sprinters weren't to be denied.
