Stage 8 of the 2026 Vuelta a España is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.

Bryan Coquard (COF) finally took the Grand Tour stage win that has eluded him throughout his 14-year professional career, timing his final acceleration perfectly to edge out Mads Pedersen (LTK) on the line in Xeraco, with Jordi Meeus (RBH) in third place and Ben Turner (NCI) in fourth.
The Frenchman's success was overshadowed, though, by the abandon of race leader Tadej Pogačar (UEX), who crashed heavily just after the day's intermediate sprint, 33km from the finish. Pogačar was riding on the left edge of the peloton when he appeared to hit something in the road. He fell left into a Team Visma | Lease a Bike rider, then went over his bars, sustaining a cut to his lead and a deep wound of his right shoulder. After sitting on the road for some minutes, he walked to an ambulance with his right arm in a sling.
