World Championships Women’s Time Trial Preview – Kigali, Rwanda
The world’s best against the clock will meet in Kigali on Sunday for the 31.2-kilometre (19.4-mile) women’s individual time trial, a course of sharp climbs and cobbled ramps that will crown the 2025 World Champion. The route packs 680 metres of elevation gain and four key ascents, including a double passage of the Côte de Nyanza and the cobbled Côte de Kimihurara, with the final 900 metres rising at more than 4 percent.
All eyes will be on Chloé Dygert of the United States, who starts at 12:07:30. The American aims to reclaim the rainbow jersey she first earned in 2019 and wore again at the Tokyo Olympics. Switzerland’s Marlen Reusser (11:55:00), the reigning European champion and a master of steady power, will be a major threat on this lumpy course. Dutch stars Demi Vollering (12:10:00) and Anna van der Breggen (11:20:00), the latter a former world time trial champion, bring Grand Tour pedigree and tactical experience.
Other medal contenders include France’s Juliette Labous (12:02:30), Poland’s Kasia Niewiadoma (11:22:30), and Germany’s Antonia Niedermaier (12:00:00). Watch also for Brodie Chapman of Australia (11:57:30), Britain’s Anna Henderson (12:05:00), and Spain’s Mireia Benito (11:40:00) to challenge for top-ten spots.
The first rider down the start ramp is Xaveline Nirere of Rwanda at 10:22:30, with the action building through mid-morning. Local hopes rest on Diane Ingabire (11:32:30) and Namukasa Trinitah of Uganda (10:40:00), who will be spurred on by passionate East African fans lining Kigali’s streets.
