Course Preview

The women’s individual time trial covers a challenging 31.2-kilometre (19.4-mile) route that packs in 680 metres of elevation gain, featuring four significant climbs and an uphill finish that promises a decisive finale.

The course opens with nearly 10 kilometres of gently rolling roads before the first major test: the Côte de Nyanza. This 2.5-kilometre climb averages a stiff 5.8% gradient. From its crest, riders plunge toward the Nyabarongo River, make a U-turn before reaching it, and head back toward Kigali. The return means tackling the Côte de Nyanza from the southern side, a longer 6.6-kilometre ascent that averages a steadier 3.5%.

From there, the route retraces its descent into the city before turning left to face the Côte de Péage, a 2.2-kilometre climb at 6%. Another fast drop delivers the riders to the base of the cobbled Côte de Kimihurara, 1.3 kilometres long with an average gradient of 6.3%.

The final push offers little respite: after a brief flat section across the summit, the road tilts up once again at more than 4% for the last 900 metres to the finish line. It’s a course designed for powerful climbers with precise pacing—an all-round test where every second will count in the fight for the rainbow jersey.
