Course Preview
The women’s road race at the World Championships in Rwanda unfolds on a 14.9-kilometre circuit tackled eleven times, for a total distance of 164.6 kilometres. Each lap packs in 304 metres of climbing, adding up to 3,350 metres of elevation gain, and the entire course sits about 1,500 metres above sea level.
Two key ascents define the loop. The Côte de Kigali Golf rises 800 metres at an average gradient of 8.1 percent, while the Côte de Kimihurura is a 1.3-kilometre cobbled climb averaging 6.3 percent.
Every lap begins with a rolling 6.3-kilometre descent leading into the Côte de Kigali Golf. The climb’s crest is deceptive: after the steep section ends, the road continues as a false flat before the riders truly reach the top. From there, 6.5 kilometres remain, starting with a descent that funnels into the decisive finale. At 2.4 kilometres to go, the field hits the uphill cobbles of the Côte de Kimihurura. The road flattens briefly after the summit, only to rise again at more than 4 percent over the final 900 metres to the finish line.
The women’s road race is scheduled to start at 11:35 a.m. local time and is expected to finish around 4:25 p.m.
