Race Recap
Defending champion Remco Evenepoel of Belgium delivered a stunning performance to claim his third straight world time trial title, covering the lumpy 40km course in 49 minutes 46 seconds.
Early starters from emerging cycling nations set the first benchmarks, but the day’s suspense built as the favorites rolled down the ramp. Belgium’s Ilan Van Wilder and Australia’s Jay Vine each raised the bar with strong intermediate splits, with Vine briefly holding the hot seat after clocking 51:00. Yet all eyes were on Evenepoel, who rocketed through the first time check at 14:05—already well ahead of the field—and kept stretching his advantage. By the second split he was more than a minute faster than Vine, and at the third he had shaved off yet another seven seconds.
The reigning champion underscored his dominance on the final climb, catching Tadej Pogačar of Slovenia, who had started 2½ minutes earlier, and even passing him before the line. Evenepoel’s relentless pace left Vine 1:14 back in second and Van Wilder 2:36 down in third. Pogačar, celebrating his birthday on the bike, finished fourth (+2:37), with Mexico’s Isaac Del Toro taking an impressive fifth (+2:40). Norway’s Andreas Leknessund, Australia’s Lucas Plapp, France’s Bruno Armirail, the Netherlands’ Thymen Arensman and Switzerland’s Stefan Küng completed the top ten.
