Course Preview
The men’s individual time trial spans 40.6 kilometres and packs in 680 metres of climbing. Riders face four key ascents, and even the finishing stretch rises uphill.
The opening 10 kilometres roll gently before the first major obstacle, the Côte de Nyanza. This 2.5-kilometre climb averages a 5.8% gradient. From its crest, the route descends toward the Nyabarongo River, where riders make a U-turn and retrace their path to Kigali, now tackling the Côte de Nyanza from the southern side. This return ascent stretches 6.6 kilometres at an easier 3.5% average grade.
Once back in the city, the course swings left to the Côte de Péage, a 2.2-kilometre climb averaging 6%. Another descent follows, leading to the cobbled Côte de Kimihurara—1.3 kilometres long at 6.3% on average.
From that summit, the road flattens briefly before kicking up again at more than 4% for the final 900 metres to the line, ensuring a punishing uphill finish.
