Course Preview
The 7th stage of the Tour de Femmes goes from Bourg-en-Bresse to Chambéry. The riders conquer over 2,000 metres of elevation gain on a 160-kilometre route. The finale is a 17.7-kilometer downhill plunge from the Col du Garnier.
The first 108 kilometres of the route are hardly worth mentioning. The riders head south on flat roads, following the Rhône Valley for dozens of kilometers after moving through Lagnieu.
The interesting part of the stage begins at the foot of the Côte de Saint-Franc. The 3.8-kilometer climb at 6.9% is a perfect way to get into the climbing rythm. The descent precedes 5 kilometres on the flat, and then it’s action time for real.
The Côte de Berland marks the start of the big climb of the day. The Côte de Berland is only 1.2 kilometers long (with an average gradient of 7.2%), but since the road continues all the way to the top of the Col du Garnier, you could consider it one long climb. From this perspective, the Garnier is a 20-kilometre climb with an average gradient of 3.8%.
Officially, the Col du Garnier is 8.8 kilometres long and the average gradient sits at 5.4%. From the summit, it’s a 17.7 kilometres dive down to the finish line in Chambéry.
