Wiebes doubles up in Poitiers as Vos settles for second again
Lorena Wiebes (Team SD Worx - Protime) stormed to her second consecutive stage victory at the 2025 Tour de France Femmes, winning the bunch sprint in Poitiers after a textbook lead-out from her team. Marianne Vos (Team Visma | Lease A Bike) once again finished runner-up, while Ireland’s Lara Gillespie (UAE Team ADQ) secured third.
The 130.7-kilometer stage from Saumur to Poitiers offered little elevation and ended in a fast, technical finale, favoring the sprinters. As expected, SD Worx took control of the race in the closing kilometers. Anna van der Breggen and Lotte Kopecky expertly guided Wiebes through the final turns, positioning her perfectly for the decisive kick to the line.
Despite Vos being well-placed and clearly determined to challenge Wiebes, the Dutch sprinter proved untouchable. With this win, Wiebes strengthens her hold on the green jersey in the points classification.
Earlier in the day, a breakaway formed featuring Maud Rijnbeek (Volkerwessels), Ana Vitória Magalhães (Movistar Team), and Franziska Koch (Team Picnic PostNL), with Koch going on to claim the intermediate sprint and Queen of the Mountain points before being caught with less than 7 kilometers remaining. For her efforts, Koch was awarded the most combative rider for the second time this week.
There were several incidents during the stage. Kristen Faulkner (EF-Oatly-Cannondale) crashed twice and continues to ride while reportedly battling illness. Nienke Vinke also went down but remounted quickly.
The general classification remains unchanged with Marianne Vos in yellow, holding a six-second lead over Kim Le Court Pienaar (AG Insurance - Soudal Team). Pauline Ferrand-Prévot (Team Visma | Lease A Bike) sits third at 12 seconds.
Tomorrow’s stage will again favor the sprinters, though riders and teams will be mindful of the mounting fatigue, crashes, and illness affecting the peloton as the race heads toward hillier terrain later in the week.
