Race Recap
Trentin Takes Third
Matteo Trentin (Tudor Pro Cycling Team) capped off his 2025 season — and perhaps his late-career resurgence — with a commanding sprint victory at Paris–Tours, earning his third win in the “Sprinters’ Classic” after previous victories in 2015 and 2017.
The 211.6-mile race from Chartres to Tours took place on a quick, dusty course with nine gravel sections and short climbs, creating intense action through the vineyard roads of the Loire Valley later in the race. Jordan Labrosse (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale), Johan Jacobs (Groupama-FDJ), Jonas Rutsch (Intermarché-Wanty), Hartthijs De Vries (Unibet Tietema Rockets), and Kenny Molly (Van Rysel Roubaix) formed the early break, but the peloton steadily caught them as the sectors approached.
Tudor Pro Cycling, riding in support of Trentin, was aggressive on the first gravel sectors, splintering the bunch and forcing a selection. Defending champion Christophe Laporte (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) looked isolated after teammate Olav Kooij suffered mechanical issues, while Lidl-Trek’s Mathias Vacek, runner-up in 2024, and 20-year-old Albert Withen Philipsen both positioned well near the front.
With 30 kilometres remaining, Paul Lapeira (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) and Thibaud Gruel (Groupama-FDJ) slipped clear, building a 30-second gap. Their move seemed promising until the chase group — including Laporte, Stefan Bissegger (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale), Philipsen, and Trentin — began to close in. As the leaders started marking each other inside the final 3 km, hesitation proved fatal: Laporte’s chase made contact just before the flamme rouge, setting up a reduced sprint.
Trentin timed his effort to perfection, securing his 32nd career win. Laporte had to settle for second, while Philipsen continued his impressive debut season with third.
