Sheffield Wins Final Stage, Jorgenson Seals GC

Magnus Sheffield and Mads Pedersen dropped their fellow attackers on the Col d'Èze, after which the American continued alone on the Col des Quatre Chemins. Meanwhile, yellow jersey holder Matteo Jorgenson moved up to second place, resulting in an American affair on Nice's Promenade des Anglais, with a stage win for Sheffield and the overall victory for Jorgenson.

Mads Pedersen was the first attacker, but his attempt was short-lived. Approximately 20 kilometres later, Lorenzo Milesi and Edward Planckaert launched an attack before Pedersen bridged across to join them. This attack was short-lived as well.

On the Col de la Porte, the race remained in full swing, with — surprise, surprise — Pedersen as the most active rider. He was caught but attacked again on the descent, building a lead of over a minute.

Felix Gall and Aleksandr Vlasov tracked down Pedersen in the final kilometre of the Côte de Peille. The GC group reached the summit 15 seconds later.

The gap widened on the descent while Magnus Sheffield set off in pursuit. He made it across on the Col d’Èze. At the same time, yellow jersey Matteo Jorgenson attacked on the lower slopes.

Pedersen and Sheffield continued together after the intermediate sprint at the summit, while Jorgenson bridged the gap to the other two.

Sheffield left Pedersen behind early on the Col des Quatre Chemins, and Gall dropped Jorgenson and Vlasov in the steep final kilometre. The American regained contact, and the two reached the summit 20 seconds behind Sheffield.

Jorgenson descended faster than Gall, but his compatriot was already so far ahead that he could not be caught. Stage victory for Sheffield, overall victory for Jorgenson.

Florian Lipowitz and Thymen Arensman flanked Jorgenson on the final podium, while the German also clinched the young rider classification. Pedersen took home the points jersey.
