Course Preview
Stage 6 offers fast men their final chance to shine in this edition of Paris-Nice. The 209.8-kilometre route features only 1,400 metres of elevation gain, and all the climbing occurs far from the finish line.
In 2022, Filippo Ganna won the prologue of the Tour de la Provence in Berre l’Étang. This time, it’s nearly certain a sprinter will claim victory in the southern French town, as serious climbs are absent.
There are three chances to earn KOM points along the way. The Côte de Pouzilhac presents a 1.8-kilometre climb at a 5% gradient, with the summit reached after 88.3 kilometres. Then comes the Côte des Baux-de-Provence, which ascends for 2.5 kilometres at 5.1%, cresting after 145.1 kilometres. Lastly, the Côte de Mouriès peaks about 50 kilometres from the finish, featuring a gentle climb of 1.2 kilometres at 5%.
If you stretch your imagination, you could consider the 950 metres before the intermediate sprint in Lançon-Provence as a climb too. It ascends at a gradient of 5.8% and occurs 19 kilometres from the finish.
The first three riders across the line receive time bonuses of 10, 6, and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprint awards 6, 4, and 2 seconds.
