Course Preview
Stage 3 of Paris-Nice is a time trial where teams navigate a 28.4-kilometre route, but individual times are recorded for a rider crossing the line alone. The final 5 kilometres include a climb with a maximum gradient of 11%.
In traditional team time trials, the clock stops for the fourth rider to cross, but for the past two years, Paris-Nice has adopted a different approach where the rider’s individual time counts. This unique format has encouraged some riders to attempt solo attacks in the closing kilometres, though none have succeeded so far. Last year, UAE Team Emirates secured victory by finishing together, just as Jumbo-Visma (now Visma | Lease a Bike) did in 2023.
While the route was flat in 2023 and slightly undulating last year, this time there’s a climb that could serve as a launchpad for solo moves. The Côte de la Pisserotte is a 1-kilometre climb averaging 5.4%, with its steepest section reaching 11%. The summit is located just over 4 kilometres from the finish, followed by a gentle downhill false flat to the line.
The remainder of the course features a mix of flat and gently rolling terrain. The race starts with undulating terrain that levels out after about 13 kilometres. From there, it shifts to flatter terrain before reaching the CĂ´te de la Pisserotte, likely to be the decisive point.
A time check is positioned at the 14-kilometre mark.
