The 119th edition of the Tour of Lombardy takes place this Saturday, marking the grand finale of the European cycling calendar. Known as Il Lombardia or the “Race of the Falling Leaves,” the fifth and final Monument of the season will send riders on a demanding 238-kilometre journey from Como to Bergamo, featuring 4,400 metres of climbing.
The decisive phase comes in the final 145 kilometres, packed with punishing ascents that favour punchy climbers. The last major challenge is the Colle Aperto, 1.6 kilometres at an average gradient of 7.9%, which could provide the perfect launchpad for a race-winning move before the descent into Bergamo.
Tadej Pogačar arrives as the dominant favourite, having claimed the last four editions of Il Lombardia (2021–2024). A fifth consecutive triumph would elevate the Slovenian into cycling history alongside record holder Fausto Coppi, who achieved the same streak between 1946 and 1949. Coppi later added a fifth win in 1954. Another local legend, Alfredo Binda, also boasts four victories (1925, 1926, 1927, and 1931).
Last year, Remco Evenepoel and Giulio Ciccone completed the podium behind Pogačar, and both are expected to be among the challengers.
