Welcome to our live coverage of Stage 6 of the 2024 Tirreno-Adriatico! Our live profile and commentary are below, followed by a preview of the technical aspects of the route.
Course Preview
The Queen Stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico amounts to 180 kilometres. The first 150 of which are not very exciting, but the last 30 are. First a wall-like climb to Moria and then the finish climb, which is a 10.1 kilometres long killer with an average gradient of 8.1%.
The race opens on undulating terrain and after 37 kilometres an extended false flat section of tens of kilometres leads to the base of La Forchetta, a 7 kilometres climb with an average gradient of 4%. The subsequent descent makes way for flat to rolling roads all the way to the base of the second climb, Pian di Trebbio, which is a similar test, although slightly longer and somewhat steeper – 7.4 kilometres at 4.6%.
The riders fly down to Pian di Polea to enter the narrow and steep road to Moria. It’s 2.5 kilometres long and the average gradient sits at 9%. Following the downhill the route follows the valley – ever so slightly down – to Cagli, at the foot of the finish climb.
Monte Petrano is a 10.1 kilometres long ascent with an average gradient of 8.1%. The first 1.5 kilometres are double digit material; the first half of the climb is the toughest part anyway. The gradient drops to 6% in the last 2 kilometres before the home straight is actually more of a false flat.
The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprint comes with 3, 2 and 1 seconds.
