What a stunning edition of the historic Milano-Torino we have just witnessed. The race has delivered exactly the kind of drama and excitement that fans of classic Italian cycling have come to expect from this prestigious event.
Tadej Pogačar has done it again. The Slovenian phenomenon put in a dominant display in the final kilometres to claim victory atop the Basilica di Superga, the iconic hilltop finish that has defined this race for generations. Pogačar attacked on the brutal slopes of the Superga climb with the kind of casual brutality that has become his trademark this season, riding away from his rivals as if they were standing still.
The race was animated throughout its course across the Piedmontese countryside, with several breakaway riders giving it everything they had in the hope of surviving to the finish. The peloton, led largely by the UAE Team Emirates train, kept the gap under control throughout the day before the real action began on the final ascent.
Jonas Vingegaard was present in the front group as the climb began but could not match Pogačar's devastating acceleration when it came. A small chase group worked together behind the race leader but the gap only grew with every pedal stroke.
Pogačar crossed the line with his arms raised, adding yet another prestigious name to what is becoming one of the most remarkable palmarès in modern cycling history. It was an emphatic statement of intent from the champion, who seems utterly unstoppable right now.
