2023 Tour de Romandie Stage 1 Live Coverage
Welcome to our live coverage of Stage 1 of the 2023 Tour de Romandie! Our live profile and commentary are below, followed by a preview of the technical aspects of the route.
Course Preview
The 1st stage of the Tour de Romandie is played out on undulating to lumpy terrain before it levels out in the last 60 kilometres. Leading from Crissier to Vallée-de-Joux, the race adds up to 170.9 kilometres.
The Tour de Romandie last visited Vallée-de-Joux seven editions ago. It was the starting venue of a team time trial that was won by Team Sky (now INOES Grenadiers) ahead of Orica GreenEdge (now BikeExchange Jayco). The valley is likely to see a sprint finish this year.
After setting off from Crissier the riders traverse undulating terrain before reaching a climb leading to an elevation of more than 1,000 metres. Right after the descent, another climb begins. This is the last climb of the day and when the riders reach the tip there are still 60 kilometres remaining, which should be enough for the sprint teams to escort their sprint leaders to the desired outcome – a bunch sprint.
The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
The 1st stage of the Tour de Romandie starts at 13:15 and the race is expected to finish around 17:30 – both are local times (CEST).
