2022 Tour de La Provence Stage 3 Results & Recap
Stage 3 of the 2022 Tour de La Provence is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.

Nairo Quintana took the final stage of the Tour de la Provence 2022 at the top of the uphill finish of Montagne de Lure (166.1 km). The Colombian from Arkéa-Samsic attacked in the last kilometers of the final stage, detaching everyone and going to win the final victory at the expense of our Filippo Ganna (INEOS Grenadiers), who slips to seventh final place. The third, and last, stage of this French stage race was decided 4.5 kilometers from the finish, when Quintana attacked together with Alaphilippe, who, however, was unable to keep his pace. At the finish line, the Arkéa-Samsic captain anticipated the very young Danish Mattias Skjelmose Jensen and the American Matteo Jorgenson (Movistar) by 37 '', while the defending champion Ivan Sosa (Movistar), who arrived with 39 ' 'late. In the overall standings, Quintana wins with a margin of 17 '' over Alaphilippe, who ends up seventh at the finish line, and 30 '' over the Jensen-Jorgenson duo. Top ten final for Filippo Ganna, who defends himself well anyway, and Samuele Battistella (Astana-Qazaqstan). Only after about ten kilometers, two men manage to take about fifteen seconds of margin: they are Luke Rowe (Ineos Grenadiers) and Alexis Gougeard (B&B Hotels-KTM), the latter already on the run yesterday. In pursuit of them Samuel Leroux (Go SPort-Roubaix Lille Metropole), Rudy Barbier (Israel-Premier Tech) and Andréa Mifsud (Nice Metropole Cote Azur) are launched, but the first two soon give up and are taken back by the group, while Mifsud continues until at the intermediate sprint of Forcalquier, after which he is reabsorbed by a platoon that still continues at a high pace.
With the two pacemakers still close, other riders try to accelerate to get back on top of the race. It is Romain Combaud (Team DSM), Nicolas Debeaumarche (St Michel-Auber 93) and Jonathan Couanon (Nice Metropole Cote Azur) who manage to escape from the group and return to Rowe and Gougeard, thus forming a squad of five men that sees the advantage to climb quickly in the following kilometers thanks to the slowdown of the platoon. In short, in fact, the attackers gain more than four minutes, starting the first GPM of the day, the Col de Buire, with an advantage of 6'45 ". The group, pulled by Groupama-FDJ, Arkea-Samsic and Trek-Segafredo , let it be, so much so that at the top of the climb the delay has increased to reach 7'15 ", even if in the following descent the pursuers get closer, moving to 6 'from the pacemakers.
at the beginning of the second climb of the Col de Buire, the margin dropped to 4'55 ". Along the climb, the pace of the pursuers increases again thanks to Groupama-FDJ, Arkea-Samsic and Trek-Segafredo, who allow the platoon to reach the top of the hill with a delay of 3'50 ". Arkéa, Astana and Trek-Segafredo lead the pursuit to the start of the climb, when Couanon and Rowe break away, leaving Combaud and Debeaumarche in the lead with about a minute ahead of the best group.
Ai -9 Combaud remains alone until at -4.5 when Quintana launches a powerful attack to which only Alaphilippe manages to react. Behind them Sosa and Ghebreigzabhier also move but the Colombian is now unleashed and so the Frenchman shakes off, who is also joined and surpassed by the other Colombian of the Movistar. Behind him, in the last 2000 meters, a small group formed by Julian Alaphilippe, Matteo Jorgenson, Mattias Jensen, Ilan Van Wilder, Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier and Kenny Elissonde. The last bars are a solo by Quintana that dominates far and wide, with the pursuers who can not help but limit the damage.
