Race Recap
Izagirre and Carapaz conquer the Aramon Formigal
On an abysmal day in the Pyrenees, Ion Izagirre (Astana) attacked his breakaway companions three kilometres from the crest of the final climb and went on to take victory on stage 6 of the Vuelta a Espana, topping off an action-packed first week of the Vuelta a Espana.
Perhaps inspired by his team's incredible performances at the Giro d'italia - Tao Geoghegan Hart winning the overall and Filippo Ganna sweeping all the time trials - Richard Carapaz moved into the overall lead ahead of Primoz Roglic, who dropped down to fourth behind Carapaz, Hugh Carthy and Dan Martin. Carapaz finished 12th on the stage, 55 seconds behind Izagirre.
Tomorrow is a rest day at the Vuelta. Stage 7 will be another hilly foray from Vitoria-Gasteiz to Villanueva de Valdegovia in the Basque County.\n
