2020 Tour Down Under Stage 2 Live Coverage
Welcome to our live coverage of Stage 2 of the 2020 Tour Down Under! Our live profile and commentary are below, followed by a preview of the technical aspects of the route.
Course Preview
The 2nd stage of the Tour Down Under amounts to 135.8 kilometres. The route starts with two loops around Woodside to conclude with three laps around Stirling. The total elevation gain is 2,357 metres, while the finish runs slightly uphill.
Although the lap around Woodside is not as lumpy as the one in Stirling the only KOM points are available on Quarry Road in Charleston. After 15.5 kilometres and at kilometre 38.5 the riders reach the crest of the short climb at 7.7%.
The route moves through Oakbank, Balhannah and Hahnddorf on the way to the finish circuit. Three laps left, 21.1 kilometres each. Every round begins with a rolling section and a drop into Mylor, after which two easy climbs follow in quick succession. The first one is 4.6 kilometres at 3% and after a short descent the next one is 2.4 kilometres at 3.8%. The passage on the line lies just before the top, so the actual finish is uphill.
In recent years, Stirling saw stage wins by Caleb Ewan (2018), Jay McCarthy (2016), Juan José Lobato (2015) and Diego Ulissi (2014). After a one year’s absence, the town in the Adelaide Hills returns as an arrival to the Tour Down Under.
Two intermediate sprints – at kilometre 74.9 and kilometre 96.2 – come with 3, 2 and 1 seconds each, while the first three riders one the line take time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds.
The 2nd stage of the Tour Down Under starts at 11.00 and the expected finish is at 14.25 – both are local times.
