Galicia signs off with its most demanding offering yet. Stage 4 marks the final day in the northwest before the race begins its journey toward Asturias and the mountains that will decide the overall classification — and the organisers have ensured it is no gentle farewell.
The 115.6km stage begins in Monforte de Lemos and features two category 3 ascents: the Alto de Oural at 19.5km and the Alto de A Vacariza at 83.6km. It won't be a flat finish as the parcours takes a turn upward in the final kilometres to the finish line in Antas de Ulla.
The Alto de A Vacariza arriving at the 83.6km mark is particularly significant. That is late enough in the stage to cause real damage. Any rider who has been struggling through the week will feel that climb acutely, and the uphill finish that follows offers little mercy. This is a day where the cumulative fatigue of four consecutive hilly stages begins to tell.
Stage 4 brings two Category 3 climbs and another slight uphill to the line for Galicia's final offering at the 2026 La Vuelta Femenina. On paper, those are modest categorisations. In practice, on the fourth day of a race that has offered almost no rest, they carry considerably more weight than their classification suggests.
For breakaway riders, this stage represents a final opportunity before the race pattern shifts toward pure GC racing. For the overall contenders, the priority remains arriving safely while keeping an eye on anyone who looks to be struggling. By the finish in Antas de Ulla, the shape of the general classification will be coming into focus, and the peloton will know, more or less, who is genuinely strong and who has been bluffing.
