Race Recap
Tadej Pogačar (UEX)'s name was on everyone's lips at the start of this stage as the likely stage-winner, and the race leader duly served up his third stage win of this race. But – it was quite a but – the finale did pan out as he would have expected.
Pogačar attacked on the final cat 1 ascent just before the narrow road turned from asphalt to gravel. Having distanced his GC rivals, he picked off the survivors from the break, the last of them Ramses Debruyne (APT).
Yet, nearing the top of the gravel section, Enric Mas (MOV) began to close on the race leader and the Spaniard made the catch right at the summit. On the descent, Pogačar overcooked one corner and briefly went off-road. He then worked with Mas all of the way into the finish and took the sprint easily. Debruyne won the sprint for third in a group that contained Felix Gall (DCT), Richard Carapaz (EFE) and Primož Roglič (RBH), 46 seconds back.
