Tobias Halland Johannessen (UXM) took the Grand Tour victory that he's been threatening for the last couple of seasons when he outsprinted Alessandro Romele (XAT) in a head-to-head duel in Granada.
The pair had followed an attack by Ramses Debruyne (APT) from an 11-man breakaway group with a kilometre remaining. Johannessen led through the last corner and opened his sprint, then held on as Romele closed on him, the gap between them half a bike-length at the line. Debruyne was third.
Enric Mas (MOV) was confirmed as the overall winner of the 2026 Vuelta. He finished safely in the peloton alongside the other GC contenders to secure his first Grand Tour success and the first victory for a Spanish rider in the Vuelta since Alberto Contador in 2014.
