Race Recap
Racing on the first road stage of his Grand Tour career, Matthew Brennan (TVL) rocketed to victory in Manosque. Led out by Christophe Laporte (TVL), the 21-year-old Briton powered clear of Mads Pedersen (LTK) and finished several lengths ahead of his pursuers, who were led in by Pau Miquel (TBV), with race leader Tadej Pogačar (UEX) third as Pedersen faded to fourth.
Second-placed Ethan Hayter (SOQ) enlivened the action with a long-range sortie in the day's four-man break. The Briton achieved his goal when he claimed the 6 seconds on offer at the bonus point, which put him in the overall lead on the road. But, after his long effort in undulating terrrain, Hayter couldn't hold the pace of the bunch in the finale, which meant that Pogačar retained the leader's red jersey.
