Stage 10 of the 2026 Vuelta a España is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.

In keeping with the highly unpredictable nature of this race in recent days, Bastien Tronchon (GFC) won the sprint into Elche de la Sierra, timing his final acceleration perfectly as he shot past late attackers Xabier Azparren (PQT) and Yevgeniy Fedorov (XAT) to finish two bike lengths clear of Magnus Cort (UXM), Thibau Nys (LTK) and Wout van Aert (TVL).
Prior to the start, Mauri Vansevenant (SOQ) had described this stage as one with a thousand potential scenarios and it played out like that. It looked good for a breakaway to go the distance and several formed and were chased down before six riders went clear – Michael Gogl (APT), Sinuhe Fernandez (BBH), Fabian Weiss (TUD), Jasha Sütterlin (JAY), Ivan Cobo (EKP) and Enzo Paleni (GFC). Fredrik Dversnes (UXM) jumped across the gap to join them, making it seven out front.
Their lead reached close to 3 minutes after an hour of racing, but was whittled down to half that crossing the first two of three cat 3 climbs.
Team Visma | Lease a Bike and Cofidis were doing the chasing in the bunch, but the two teams began to run out of pace-setters going into the final undulating section of the stage.
Jasha Sütterlin (JAY) and Sinuhe Fernandez (BBH) were dropped before the final cat 3, the Puerto de Socovos, where Fabian Weiss (TUD) fell back. Behind, the bunch had closed to within a minute, the narrowness of the gap encouraging a flurry of attacks, with Edward Dunbar (PQT), Kevin Vermaerke (UEX), Valentin Paret-Peintre (SOQ) and Jay Vine (UEX) among many who tried in vain to bridge up to the leaders.
At the top of the climb, the breakaway quartet led by 30". On the uncategorised ascent that followed soon after, Enzo Paleni (GFC) and Ivan Cobo (EKP) were dropped. On the next rise, Gogl yielded too, leaving Dversnes (UXM) out on his own.
With 5km left, he too was caught as Team Visma | Lease a Bike tried to lock down the race for Van Aert. By now, though, they were very low on numbers. When Walter Calzoni (PQT) attacked just over 3km from the finish, Matthew Brennan (TVL) had to do the chasing.
When Fedorov and then Azparren bolted away 1,200m from the finish, no one was left to chase for the Belgian sprinter. It looked, briefly, like the pair might decide the spoils between them. But, having been led out by Guillaume Martin (GFC), Tronchon started his sprint early and swept by them inside the final 100m to clinch his first Grand Tour stage win and his team's first GT success of the year.
