2026 Volta ao Algarve Stage 3 Results & Recap
Stage 3 of the 2026 Volta ao Algarve is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.
Race Recap
Filippo Ganna won the time trial in Vilamoura today, and the Volta ao Algarve is exactly where it was before the clocks started: Ganna took the stage, Ayuso holds yellow.
The flat 19.5km out-and-back course along the Algarve coast suited the pure power riders and Ganna is in that category better than anyone who started today. Among the GC riders, Ayuso was fastest at the intermediate check — briefly holding a one-second advantage over Ganna at 10.7km — but faded in the second half and ultimately finished second on the stage, six seconds behind the Italian. Söderqvist (Lidl-Trek) was third. Crucially, the time trial extended Ayuso's lead over Seixas in the general classification to seven seconds — not a lot, but it is something to defend. Almeida slips to third overall at 44 seconds. One sprint stage and one summit finish remain. This race is not over.
