Stage 5 of the 2026 Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.

While Remco Evenepoel (Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe) claimed his sixth victory in just appearances for his new team, becoming the first Belgian rider to win the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana since Eddy Merckx in 1969, the spoils on the final day went to RaĂșl GarcĂa Pierna (Movistar Team), who proved quickest of the six breakaway riders that just managed to hold off the arrival of the bunch in the final kilometre.
Part of a 21-rider break that went away early in the stage, GarcĂa Pierna split that large group on the super steep slopes of the 1st-category Garbi climb, halfway through the stage. Nine riders came together coming out of the hills including two from Ineos Grenadiers, stage three winner Andrew August and Kim Heiduk. Unfortunately, both slid out on differet right-hand bends in the final kilometres, with Lidl-Trek's Julian Bernard also going down with Heiduk.
Coming into the finish, the six remaining breakaways had a 10-second lead on the peloton and kept working together until the final few hundred metres. Red Bull's Emil Herzog led out the sprint, but GarcĂa Pierna came by on his right to give Movistar their first win of this season.
