Course Preview

Stage 3 of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana sees the peloton travel 158 kilometres from Orihuela to Sant Vicent del Raspeig. They tackle around 1,500 metres of elevation gain before the race concludes with a long downhill run to the line.

Most of the elevation gain is packed into two climbs in short succession, with the first, Puerto de Tibi, being the most demanding.

Shortly after passing through Alicante, following 100 kilometres on largely flat roads, the terrain begins to rise gently. Just over 10 kilometres later, the Tibi serves up roughly 6 kilometres of climbing at an average gradient of around 7%.

Immediately after a short descent, the road rises again for 2 kilometres at 6.5%. The gradient then eases, with a further 3.7 kilometres of false flat uphill. As a result, the second climb totals 5.7 kilometres at an average gradient of 3.7%. From the summit, there are still 27 kilometres to go, almost entirely downhill towards Sant Vicent del Raspeig.

In the finishing town, the final kilometre rises gently.

The first three riders across the finish line gain 10, 6 and 4 bonus seconds, while 3, 2 and 1 seconds are available at the intermediate sprint.
