2026 Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana Stage 2 Results & Recap
Stage 2 of the 2026 Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.
Race Recap
Although the time trial went the way everyone expected it would with Remco Evenepoel (Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe) wrapping up his fourth victory in five starts for his new team, windy conditions meant that his victory didn't count towards the general classification, which was neutralized before the time trial began due to safety concerns.
It quickly became apparent that the wind was causing significant problems when the riders were doing their recons on their aero TT bikes. After discussions between the organizers, commissaires, riders and teams, the decision was taken to prohibit the use of TT bikes and limit riders to use of their road bikes. No times would be taken either, allowing riders to race if they wanted to and cruise around the 17.5km course if they didn't.
Desite the fiercely gusting wind, most riders chose to tackle the TT flat out, or close to it. Felix Großschartner (UAE Team Emirates XRG) was the early leader, until teammate Brandon McNulty (UAE Team Emirates XRG) bettered his time. The American's mark stood until the late starters began their effort. Florian Vermeersch (UAE Team Emirates XRG) became the third rider from the team to lead the TT, until first Mathias Vacek (Lidl-Trek) and then Aleksandr Vlasov (Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe) improved on his mark. Soon after Vlasov, Remco Evenepoel (Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe) came through eight seconds quicker, the Belgian world TT champion saying that he raced out of respect for the organisers and fans.
