Tobias Lund Andresen Storms to Stage 1 Win\nBy Clara Beard

Tobias Lund Andresen achieved a breakthrough victory on the first stage of the Santos Tour Down Under, sprinting to win in Tanunda and securing a surprising yet well-deserved result for Decathlon–CMA CGM. The race started in a lively way, with an early breakaway from Guillaume Martin, Enzo Paleni and Martin Bugge. However, the peloton stayed in control throughout the stage, gradually catching the three leaders as the sprinter teams took over toward the end. The bonus seconds earned by Martin at intermediate sprints briefly affected the virtual standings, but the stage was ultimately heading toward a large group sprint.

During a hectic final kilometer, INEOS Grenadiers controlled the lead; however, Lund Andresen unleashed a perfect sprint to secure victory, finishing ahead of Matthew Brennan and Sam Welsford. The 10-second time bonus was sufficient to put the Dane in the overall lead, one second ahead of prologue winner Sam Watson, with Ethan Vernon and several others closely grouped behind.
