On day three, the Tour de Romandie serves up a 173.1-kilometre hilly stage featuring 3,104 metres of climbing. The final climb rises for 3.1 kilometres at 5.4% to Vuillens, after which the finish lies 2.1 kilometres further on in Vucherens.

After the start in Rue, the riders cover 33.5 kilometres to the finishing venue of Vucherens. Along the way they already tackle three climbs: 3.1 kilometres at 4.2% (straight from the start), 2.9 kilometres at 4.3%, and 1.2 kilometres at 8.6%. After the first passage of the finish line, three identical 46.5-kilometre circuits remain.

On these laps the roads are rarely flat, but it is never steep either. After each finish passage, the riders hit a gradually rising false flat, which eventually ramps up into a 1.5-kilometre stretch at 6.1%. This is followed by a rolling descent before the road rises again towards Chapelle-sur-Moudon.

After the final passage in Chapelle-sur-Moudon, there are still 17 kilometres to go. It begins with a descent, after which the road climbs for 3.1 kilometres at 5.4% to Vuillens. Following a short downhill section, the final kilometre is flat.

The first three riders across the line receive 10, 6 and 4 bonus seconds.
