Race Recap

Tim Merlier (SOQ) took his third bunch sprint victory of the race, punching clear of his rivals in the final 50 metres to finish half a bike length clear of Olav Kooij (DCT), with Jasper Philipsen (APT) in third and Biniam Girmay (NSN) fourth.

For the first time, there was big crash in the finale. Fernando Gaviria (CJR) clipped a wheel 400m from the line and took down several riders including stage 11 winner Søren Wærenskjold (UXM). All those who went down did finish, but Gaviria and Jenno Berckmoes (LOI) had significant injuries.

Baptiste Veistroffer (LOI) also secured a hat-trick, in his case of most combative rider awards. The Frenchman triggered the four-man break that spent most of the day away, then spent a few kilometres with just Ewen Costiou (GFC) for company before ended his sortie on his own. After Veistroffer was caught 30km from home, there were numerous further breakaway attempts, with Lidl-Trek very prominent, but no one could escape the iron grip of the sprinters' teams.
