Course Preview
Stage 5 takes the riders through the vineyards and relentless hills of the Beaujolais region, with 2,850 meters of elevation gain and eight categorized climbs. The climbing begins with the 9.6-kilometer Côte de Cenves before the race crosses the Col de la Croix de l’Orme, Côte de Saint-Christophe, Col de Fontmartin and Col de Gerbet. The second half continues through celebrated wine country, passing Saint-Amour, Juliénas, Fleurie, Villié-Morgon and Chiroubles. The decisive selection should come on Mont Brouilly, a three-kilometer climb averaging 7.7% that tops out just over 10 kilometers from the finish. A reduced group of climbers and puncheurs is likely to contest the victory in Belleville-en-Beaujolais.
