Reusser flies into yellow with time trial supremacy
Marlen Reusser (Movistar Team) powered to victory on Stage 4, taking both the stage win and the yellow jersey at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift.
The world and European time trial champion covered the 21-kilometer course from Gevrey-Chambertin to Dijon in 27:30 at an average speed of 45.82 kph. Reusser beat Lieke Nooijen (Visma | Lease a Bike) by just four seconds, while Demi Vollering (FDJ United-Suez) finished third at 18 seconds.
Nooijen set the early standard with a time of 27:34 and held off challenges from Zoe Bäckstedt (Canyon//SRAM), Mischa Bredewold (SD Worx-Protime) and Kristen Faulkner (EF Education-Oatly). Reusser eventually knocked her out of the hot seat, although the Dutch rider made the finish close after trailing by 20 seconds at the intermediate checkpoint.
Vollering also delivered a strong ride among the overall contenders, finishing in 27:48 at an average of 45.32 kph. Elisa Longo Borghini and Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney limited their losses to 1:03 and 1:09, respectively.
Defending champion Pauline Ferrand-Prévot struggled against the clock, finishing in 29:43 and conceding 2:13 to Reusser. Anna van der Breggen stopped the clock at 28:39, while Dominika Włodarczyk finished 1:22 behind the stage winner.
Overnight leader Sigrid Ytterhus Haugset completed the course in 30:36, losing 3:06 to Reusser and surrendering the yellow jersey. Reusser took control of the general classification as the race headed toward its decisive mountain stages.
