Race Recap

Michael Valgren won from the breakaway today — his first victory since 2021 — and Isaac del Toro reclaimed the race lead. It was a day that rewarded a patient and canny Danish veteran, shifted the GC picture, and nearly ended with Valgren caught at the finish.

Valgren (EF Education-EasyPost) was part of the early move and slowly dispatched his companions through the rolling Marche hills. With del Toro and Matteo Jorgenson (Visma-Lease a Bike) chasing hard in the finale, Valgren held on by the narrowest of margins — he didn't look over his shoulder until the line was metres away. Behind him, del Toro finished in the chasing group and reclaimed the maglia azzurra from Giulio Pellizzari (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), who lost the lead after a difficult afternoon. "I wasn't sure I was going to hold on," Valgren admitted afterward, shaking his head. Del Toro now leads Pellizzari by 23 seconds heading into tomorrow's summit finish.
