2026 Tirreno-Adriatico Stage 2 Results & Recap
Stage 2 of the 2026 Tirreno-Adriatico is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.
Race Recap
Mathieu van der Poel won in San Gimignano today, and Isaac del Toro took the race lead. It was a day that will be talked about well beyond the finish of this week β 206km through Tuscany, ending in gravel, chaos, crashes, and a thrilling three-up sprint on the cobbled streets of one of Italy's most beautiful hill towns.
The final 10km featured a 5.3km gravel sector and a 1.2km rise at 7.1% through San Gimignano's narrow medieval lanes. Rain fell through much of the afternoon and the dirt roads were treacherous. Crashes thinned the front group through the gravel β Matteo Jorgenson (Visma-Lease a Bike) and Thymen Arensman both lost significant time. At the front, van der Poel, del Toro and Giulio Pellizzari (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) emerged together after van der Poel failed in an attempt to get away solo and had a near-miss on the descent. The three reached the steep cobbled ramp together. Pellizzari launched the sprint. Van der Poel went past him. Del Toro came back strongly in the final metres but the Dutchman held. Del Toro takes the race lead with Pellizzari three seconds back. This race has a proper fight on its hands.
