Race Recap

Harold Tejada (XAT) gave Astana their second stage win of the week when he broke away over the top of the final climb and rode solo into the finish at Apt. The Colombian's victory repaid the effort his teammates had put in when Tejada punctured with 18km remaining. Four of them dropped back, including stage 2 victor Max Kanter (XAT), to pace him back up to the peloton before the first of two climbs approaching the finish.

Having regained his place in the bunch on the first of those climbs, on which the intermediate sprint was located, Tejada attacked going over the top of the second one, the 2nd-category CĂ´te de Saignon. He got a gap and never looked back. Although a strong group chased him into the finish, Tejada had enough time to celebrate his victory before Dorian Godon (IGD) led in the pursuers, ahead of Lewis Askey (NSN) and Bryan Coquard (COF).

This was another high-speed stage where more than hour passed before the breakaway formed. Joshua Tarling (IGD), Igor Arrieta (UAD), Arthur Kluckers (TUD) and Steff Cras (SOQ) were the four men in it. Their maximum lead was a little more than two minutes, but they still held half of that advantage going onto those two final climbs. Cras was dropped on the descent of the first of them, while Kluckers yielded at the foot of the second.

Tarling and Arrieta pressed on, though, and were caught just a few hundred from the top of the final ascent, where Lenny Martinez (TBV) shot by them. When the Frenchman eased off, Tejada decided it was his moment to attack and how right he was.
