Course Preview

The Giro d’Italia Women concludes with a 145-kilometre stage featuring 2,200 metres of elevation gain. The start and finish are in Saluzzo, and the riders tackle three climbs, with the last crest coming 35.3 kilometres from the finish.

The Montoso is by far the toughest climb of the day. Coming after a flat approach of 46.3 kilometres, it is a brutal ascent of 8.9 kilometres at 9.4%. The opening kilometres are still relatively manageable, but from kilometre 3 onwards it turns into a double-digit brute. Ouch!

Shortly after the descent, the Colletta di Paesana adds a modest effort of 3.4 kilometres at 5.8% to the mix. At the summit, the riders are just past the halfway point.

A long, drawn-out descent leads to the Colletta di Brondello, a 6.9-kilometre climb averaging 6.5%. Once again, the opening section is not too demanding, but in the final 5 kilometres the average ramps up to just under 8%. Around 1 kilometre from the top there is a 500-metre stretch at 10.4%.

Once over the summit, there are still 35.3 kilometres to the finish, over flat to rolling roads with a slightly downhill trend.

There are time bonuses of 6, 4 and 2 seconds up for grabs at the intermediate sprint, while the first three riders across the line receive 10, 6 and 4 seconds. Get more details at cyclingstage.com.
