Race Recap
Iván Romeo Solos to Stage 3 win
After the final climb, Iván Romeo launched a solo attack on the flat section. The U23 Time Trial World Champion held on until the finish line and celebrated his first professional victory. João Almeida finished third to take the lead in the general classification.
After several unsuccessful breakaway attempts, Francisco Muñoz, Filippo Ridolfo, Matteo Scalco, Unai Iribar, Walter Calzoni, and Jose Juan Prieto finally managed to escape. The six-man group reached a maximum lead of around seven minutes.
Muñoz went solo in the run-up to El Remedio, but he was caught by the UAE Emirates-led peloton on the climb. Yellow jersey Mathias Vacek lost contact with five kilometres left to climb.
Jefferson Cepeda attacked on the climb, but Santiago Buitrago took over. João Almeida joined the Colombian team, and he won the intermediate sprint.
The two were brought back, and then Iván Romeo gave it a go. The Spaniard opened a 30-second gap.
The U23 Time Trial World Champion survived the small climb to the finish and celebrated his first win in the pro-ranks. Buitrago bested Almeida in the second-place sprint, but that wasn't enough for the yellow jersey, which went to the Portuguese.
