Course Preview
The final stage of the Volta a Catalunya centers around Montjuïc hill in Barcelona. As always, the race culminates in six laps on the hilly 7.8-kilometer city circuit. The total route spans 136.2 kilometers, featuring an elevation gain of nearly 1,800 meters.
The Barcelona stage has been a fixture for many years and will continue to be so for at least the next three years. Following a loop around the Catalan capital, which this year includes the Alt de Corbera, the race typically intensifies as the riders enter the circuit, with the Alto de Montjuïc at its center.
Montjuïc is an iconic hill that overlooks the Catalan capital. The climb to Montjuïc castle is included six times. Rising to 19%, the 2.5-kilometer ascent has an average gradient of 4.6% before a 1-kilometer descent leads the riders to an uphill section of 700 meters at 6%. Each lap concludes with a 2.3-kilometer false flat descent to the finish line.
Last year, Tadej Pogacar capped his dominant performance with a fourth stage win, securing the overall title in his race debut. With his victory in the Barcelona stage, he succeeded Remco Evenepoel (2023), Andrea Bagioli (2022), Thomas De Gendt (2021, 2013), Davide Formolo (2019), Simon Yates (2018), and Alejandro Valverde (2017, 2015).
The first three riders to cross the finish line receive time bonuses of 10, 6, and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprints offer 3, 2, and 1 seconds in bonuses.
