Stage 2 of the 2025 Volta a Catalunya is in the books. The final results and standings are below, followed by our recap of how the race unfolded.

Sprint Triumph Vernon, Brennan Still Leader
The 2nd stage of the Volta a Catalunya extended an open invitation to the sprinters, which Ethan Vernon gratefully accepted by storming to victory. Matthew Brennan finished second to cement his lead in the GC.
KOM leader Danny van der Tuuk attacked from the start alongside Diego Uriarte and Calum Johnston. The trio opened up a 4-minute lead.
On the Coll Puig del Pení, the gap dropped below one minute, but Van der Tuuk did not have to worry and he won the KOM sprint at the summit. By that time, the gap had widened back to 2 minutes.
On the Coll de Sant Pere de Rodes, the peloton, led by Visma | Lease a Bike and Alpecin-Deceuninck, increased the pace again. Johnston dropped from the breakaway, while Mario Aparicio jumped across to the leaders. He left them behind to take most KOM points at the top.
The peloton was bunched again at the end of the descent, and it remained bunched toward the finishing venue in Figueres, while Juan Ayuso bagged 3 seconds in the intermediate sprint in Garriguella.
In the ensuing bunch sprint in Figueres, it was Ethan Vernon who edged out Matthew Brennan for the win. Kaden Groves came home in third position, so Brennan extends his GC lead by 2 bonus seconds.
