Race Recap

Amber Kraak rode 25 kilometres alone through the Bernese hills today and won stage 2 of the Tour de Suisse Women in Oberkirch — a dominant solo performance that ended an extraordinarily long breakaway day in the longest stage in this race's history.

The 161.7km route from Gstaad featured three classified climbs: the Schallenberg, the steep Wintermatt, and the Buechehübeli (5.7km at 6.1%), which crested 19.3km from the finish. Five riders escaped early — Kraak (FDJ-Suez), Marta Lach (SD Worx-Protime), Carina Schrempf (Fenix-Deceuninck), Henrietta Christie (EF Education-Oatly) and Agnieszka Skalniak-Sójka (Canyon-SRAM) — and built an advantage of over six minutes. Skalniak-Sójka was later dropped, and the remaining four reached the Buechehübeli still clear. On its slopes, Kraak went — and didn't look back. Twenty-five kilometres of solo effort through the afternoon heat.

Behind her, Lach crossed second at 1:55 down, though she briefly turned up a wrong road in the final kilometre before correcting herself. Élise Chabbey (FDJ-Suez) won the sprint for third. Race leader Reusser and Vollering came in over three minutes back, and the gap between them remained at four seconds in the general classification. A quiet day at the top — which may suit Reusser just fine.
