João Almeida Seals Stunning Double Victory in Tour de Suisse Finale

João Almeida delivered a dominant performance on the final day of the 2025 Tour de Suisse, conquering the decisive mountain time trial and securing overall victory in a thrilling conclusion to the eight-day race.

The Portuguese rider posted the fastest time on the uphill course, stopping the clock at 27 minutes and 33 seconds. This performance not only earned him the stage win but also propelled him to the top of the general classification, marking a double triumph in the Swiss Alps.

Almeida faced fierce competition on the steep gradients of the final individual time trial, but he set the tone early. At the 4.5 km intermediate check, he recorded a blistering 11:12, holding a one-second advantage over Felix Gall and maintaining a slim margin over a tight group that included Harry Sweeny, Kévin Vauquelin, and Oscar Onley.

From that point on, Almeida extended his lead, ultimately finishing 24 seconds ahead of Gall, who placed second on the stage. Oscar Onley finished third on the day, 1:11 behind Almeida, and managed to secure a podium spot in the overall standings.

Vauquelin, who entered the day contending for the yellow jersey, struggled to match Almeida's pace on the steeper upper slopes. He finished fourth on the stage, 1:40 back, but his efforts were sufficient to claim second place in the general classification, 1:07 behind the Portuguese victor.

Oscar Onley rounded out the final GC podium, finishing third overall at +1:58. Felix Gall’s strong ride earned him fourth in the standings (+2:20), while Julian Alaphilippe completed the top five at +3:57.

Almeida’s triumph marks one of the most significant victories of his career and demonstrates his growing strength as a Grand Tour contender. His ability to handle high-pressure situations, combined with his prowess in both climbing and time trialing, made the difference on a day where seconds mattered.
