Almeida Claims Victory in Emmetten

Kévin Vauquelin, donning the yellow jersey, launched an attack 400 meters from the summit finish in Emmetten, emerging from an elite group. However, in the final 50 meters, João Almeida and Oscar Onley surpassed him. The Portuguese rider secured the stage victory, while Vauquelin successfully retained the yellow jersey.

While the attacking spirit was evident, no breakaway materialized after 40 kilometers. At that juncture, the peloton split into two, allowing a group of seven riders to seize the opportunity to break clear. Tiesj Benoot, Frank van den Broek, Quinn Simmons, Aleksandr Vlasov, Junior Lecerf, Hugo Houle, and Felix Engelhardt established a lead of 3 minutes and 30 seconds, while the peloton behind reformed.

On the Bürgenstock, the gap diminished to 1 minute as Simmons initiated an attack. He was subsequently joined by yellow jersey Kévin Vauquelin, along with Julian Alaphilippe, João Almeida, Oscar Onley, and Felix Gall, with 2.3 kilometers remaining to climb. Shortly thereafter, Frank van den Broek also joined them.

Gall launched his attack just 700 meters into the concluding climb. Almeida, Onley, and Vauquelin managed to reel him in just before the flamme rouge, with Alaphilippe making a connection 730 meters from the finish line.

With a sudden burst of speed, Vauquelin surged ahead, 400 meters from the finish. He managed to establish a comfortable lead but ultimately lacked the strength to maintain it until the end. Onley closed the gap, while Almeida surged past in the final meters, securing the victory.

Though Vauquelin retained the yellow jersey, Almeida narrowed the gap to just 33 seconds.
